What will this year's Prague Pride festival be like? Dozens of events await us in August
- Hynek Toman
There will be a Prague Pride 10th edition this year, as planned, on 3-9 August 2020. But we are already aware that the coronavirus pandemic will have a strong impact on how the Pride week will look like.
What is in store this year?
The Prague Pride festival will offer this year dozens of interesting events. Compared to last year, there will probably half of them – that means about 70 events. The program will include a wide range of activities, from community picnics to stream debates and music transmissions. The Pride House will host discussions just like in previous years. We are planning to enjoy the Pride week and lower to a minimum the risk of virus contagion.
Will there be a rainbow parade?
It’s not easy to say this, and we know we are not making a lot of people happy. Short of a miracle in the next few days, there will be not rainbow parade this year due to the restrictions regarding public gatherings. There is no way how we could ensure that the number of people joining the parade is within the legal limit. This is the most popular event of the festival, a culmination of the Pride week, and no matter how hard it is for us to concede that it will be cancelled this time, there’s no way around it.
We do plan an alternative version, though: and online program, for the whole afternoon, offering content and connections with other places hosting Pride meetings and parties. We are aiming for media partnership with important media outlets.
